Problem with wedding favors…. Your opinion….?
So for our wedding favors, we decided to do a candy bar/buffet.. we got 13 different vases (all different sizes and shapes). I found this idea online and fell in love with it.. My mom is a completely different story though. She feels that it is a dumb idea.. But being my wedding she is “letting” us do this..
Problem comes in now.. she says in addition to the candy bar she wants to have coaster favors for each family (not person).
I do not think its necessary to have the additional favor. We are already paying enough for the candy bar.. But she is insistent on it. I personally do not like the coasters she has picked out but I go along with it…
My parents are paying for the majority of the wedding and my fiancé’s parents paid for some of it too.. I paid for my dress, cake, and a few other things. (our wedding is only going to be about 13,000 total).
My mom is having me pay for these coasters (favors), which I wouldn’t mind as much but I don’t like them.. I came up with a different idea instead after some looking… They are almost a 100 dollars cheaper too..
Personalized playing cards… What do ya’ll think?

Would you like these better than coasters?
The age range that will be at our wedding is late 20’s to mid 40’s. (my fiancé and I are in our early 20’s)
Thanks for the responses.. but I have to get another favor.. so please no responses saying dont get any…

Either idea is a waste of money. I personally would not pick either from the tables as I do not like random trinkets and trash. The candy bar is just fine. I’m with yuo, additonal favors are unnecesary.
Good luck

playing cards are way better. poeple will use them way more than coaster. you dont want to waste money, get something poeple will use..and if you dont like them most poeple wont either, so tell your mom they dont repent you and you like the cards better.

ABSOLUTELY! Playing cards are more practical and clearly more in your budget! (Coasters are hard because people usually have a set of 4 or more to match their decor, and most coasters are glass to look nice but aren’t as practical).
Good luck with your mom!

I prefer the coasters to be honest, but think they are completely unnecessary with the candy bar. The candy bar is a great idea, and is much more cost effective! Persuade your mum to stick with the sweets! x

Well I think that you should listen to your mother and get the second favor because she is paying for most of your wedding. I also think that instead of the coasters for each family the playing cards would be better. They are more enjoyable, they can be used right away, and the people that don’t dance will have something to do as well!
Good Luck & Congratulations!!!!!!!
Hope I Helped!!!

I definitely think people will get more use out of the playing cards than the coasters. After all, who really wants to set their drinks down on a coaster that’s got your names/picture and wedding date on it? I have a set of shotglasses that has my friend’s name and wedding date on it, and it’s kind of weird- people are like "Who’s (friend)?" when I serve them a shot in that glass. I really hardly ever use it.
Also, I think you are right that the candy bar is enough of a favor- people enjoy edible favors because then they don’t have to worry about where they’re going to stash it. All the favors I’ve ever gotten from weddings ended up in a junk drawer in the kitchen, because I didn’t want them but I also couldn’t throw them away because they were from my friends’ weddings.
If this is what will make Mom happy and keep the peace, though, just buy the darn coasters. After all, she and your dad are paying for the majority of your wedding- if there’s one thing I;ve learned from this whole wedding planning process, it’s PICK YOUR BATTLES!!!

Playing cards are heaps better!! I dont use coasters that dont go with my decor. Playing cards, I could use someday. Plus, it works with the one-per-family thing.

you don’t need a favor in addition to the candy bar. in fact you don’t need favors at all. most weddings I’ve been to lately don’t have favors, and I’ve been to about 20 total. it’s enough for the bride and groom to pay for food, booze, cake and music for the guests for several hours, you don’t need a ton of other meaningless trinkets or coasters hanging around. tell your mom you have already taken care of the favors by supplying the candy bar. if she wants something additional on the tables for each guest, tell her to knock herself out and buy it herself. she can’t force you to spend your own money, unless she has your checkbook or credit card!

Sweetheart… it is YOUR wedding… tell her if she wants the coasters so bad she can purchase them. Once again…. THIS IS YOUR WEDDING!!!

the cards are really cute and something i haven’t seen before as wedding favors. I say go for it. if you are having to pay for the extra favors than you should get to choose what they are at the very least. and like your mother said it is your wedding so shouldn’t you get what you want?

It’s so funny because my mom is paying for my wedding and she is the one who insists on doing a candy buffet! She loves the idea! But anyways I guess just go with it cause it won’t kill you. I think cards and coasters are great…but better than the other little trinkets out there. I think I would use coasters more but I would still use playing cards when friends come over. The coasters may look better on a table at the wedding because cards could look like a vegas gift store but I don’t know for sure.

I would rather have the personalized playing cards. I don’t use coasters. I love the candy bar idea!
Best of luck and Congrats!
